Evite 2/20/2008   Hi Everyone ---

Practice THIS SUN at 11:30A - weather permitting. Great job keeping up with the drills last practice!

We will be taking attendance at all practices. Part of the criteria for making the LB All-Star team will be number of practices attended.

Please forward this Evite to whomever else you may feel is interested in joining us.

Those of you interested in MASTERS - we will be practicing concurrently with the MIXED PREMIUM team until we get a more consistent flow of people coming to practice . . .

See all of you soon!

I've attached links (below) to Adobe PDF files for some dragon boat-specific exercises. Please try and integrate some or all of these exercises into your workouts. Those of you who subscribed to Dragon Boat World magazine may recognize these from the 2005 Spring and 2005 Summer issues. You will need Adobe Reader available here for free in order to read these documents. Please be patient - these are large files!

As Mike mentioned at the meeting:
  • training goals to target are:  as an individual, 450m in 2 minutes in an OC-1 using a dragon boat paddle; as a team, 500m in 2 minutes in a dragon boat
  • as the season progresses, you will have to commit to possibly 2-3 practices during the week IN ADDITION to weekends AND your own team practices
  • an outside Olympic coach will be brought in around May or June
  • we will be using Maroon boat #8 for all practices whenever possible (the only IDBF boat we have)
  • at this time we are looking to field 1 Premier mixed team. if there are more people for another mixed team, Dr. Chen may field gender teams for us
  • if there are enough people to field a Master's team, Dr. Chen will support, but this team will be "on its own" for organization/practices/coaching
  • based on the group assembled, Mike suggested we go with a slower stroke rate (60+/minute) similar to the outrigger stroke
  • we shouldn't let egos get in the way; when practicing as a team, you are Long Beach All-Stars, not Thunder Dragons or AeroDragons or Killer Guppies, etc.
We will be communicating by Evite for most practices. Make sure your spam blocker accepts the Evite invitations. Please make sure you RSVP to the Evites if you will be attending practice. Last SUN, some folks showed up, but had not been informed that practice was cancelled. We will only call those people that have RSVP'd if there are changes to the scheduled practices due to weather/sewage spill, etc.

An e-mail survey will be e-mailed to you shortly regarding your preferences for days/times that you prefer for practices. We will also be asking for information about your paddling experience, side preferences, home team, etc.

An Evite will also be coming --- we will try again to practice THIS SUN at 12 Noon at Mother's Beach . . .

Have a great week and see you on the water!

--- M.

PS --- Please forward me the e-mail addresses for others that you think may be interested in joining us!
